WING COMMANDER CHRISTIAN GLEAVE MA RAF

 

OFFICER COMMANDING 100 SQUADRON RAF LEEMING

 

OC 100 SqnJoining the RAF in 1990, Wing Commander Christian Gleave was posted to fly Harrier GR7 on IV(AC)Sqn at RAF Laarbruch in 1994. He conducted operations over Bosnia, Sierra Leone (from HMS Illustrious) and later over Serbia. After a subsequent tour at RAF Valley as the Hawk CFS Agent where he was responsible for instructing Tactics and Weapons to students and staff, Christian was selected for RAFAT. Between 2001 and 2003, he flew 352 public shows across 29 countries acting as the Red Arrows Executive Officer. A short spell with DE&S as the Hawk 128 Requirements Manager followed, before returning to Joint Force Harrier as a GR9 Flt Cdr at RAF Cottesmore. As Executive Officer on IV(AC)Sqn, he acted as HARDET Commander during HERRICK 06 and 07. Promoted to Wing Commander in 2008, Christian was posted to HQ Air Command as SO1 Harrier Operations Officer.

 

Following completing Staff College at JSCSC, Christian was posted to MoD in August 2010 as Current Air Platforms in Capability Deep Target Attack. Wing Commander Christian Gleave assumed command of 100 Sqn on 9 Apr 11. He enjoys long distance running, military history, cooking, mountain-biking and skiing – although not necessarily in that order.

 

 

 

 

 

News from The Boneyard

 

Laying up of the ‘Old’ Squadron Standard at Ripon Cathedral.

 

100 Squadron received its new Standard from HRH The Duchess of Cornwall on 4th November 2010. The ‘old’ Standard will be laid up in perpetuity in Ripon Cathedral on 11th November 2011 at 11:00 hours (11:11:11 at 11:00). This will be a Service of Remembrance during which the old Standard will be ‘rested’ permanently.

Wing Commander Christian Gleave, OC 100 Squadron, has extended an invitation to all members of 100 Squadron Association to attend this important event. The format and timings for the event are as follows:

 

08:30 - 09:30 Association members arrive at RAF Leeming to be hosted at 100 Squadron.

10:00 Coaches depart 100 Squadron for Ripon Cathedral.

10:25 Coaches arrive at Ripon Cathedral with a Guard of Honour welcome.

10:45 100 Squadron flypast (weather permitting).

10:55 Service of Remembrance commences.

11:25 Service complete including laying up of old Standard.

11:30 - 12:30 Hosted reception in South Transept of Ripon Cathedral with finger buffet at £3:50 per head.

12:35 Coaches depart Ripon Cathedral for RAF Leeming and 100 Squadron.

13:30 Association members depart RAF Leeming.

Peter Squires

 

Wing Commander Peter Squires commanded 100 Squadron from April 2009 through to April 2011. He supported 100 Squadron Association with enthusiasm and acted as our Chairman with skill and patience.

On leaving 100 Squadron, Peter was promoted to Group Captain and assumed command of 906 Expeditionary Air Wing. He took up responsibility for directing the Royal Air Force Component of offensive operations over Libya in support of the uprising against Colonel Gaddafi.

100 Squadron Association congratulate Peter on his promotion and wish him well in his current role.
