100 Squadron Association Reunion and AGM 2010
June 2010 - Reunion Update
We have had
to provide the Black Sheep Brewery with the numbers of those attending
the Lunch and Tour of the Brewery on Friday 16th July. Therefore, we are
unable to accept any further bookings for this lunch and tour Update - Please be aware that the Officers Mess is now fully booked for the 2010 reunion weekend. During 2010, 100 Squadron will receive a new Colour Standard. It had been hoped to hold the Reunion together with this presentation. However, as the date for the presentation has not yet been established, it is not possible to hold the 2010 Reunion together with this presentation. However, Association Members will be able to attend the presentation under their own arrangements. Details will be announced just as soon as the date for the presentation has been decided. After some difficulties in finding suitable dates for the Reunion, due to the tasking and other events taking place at Leeming during late June and early in July, we finally established the 16th and 17th of July as the dates for our Reunion. We shall hold our ‘Meet and Greet’ at the Leeming Officers’ Mess from 10:00 on the 16th with tea/coffee and biscuits being provided to wet our whistles for all the nattering that goes on! Wg Cdr Peter Squires has extended an invitation to all Members to pay a visit to the Squadron Hangar during our meet and greet, and transport will leave the Mess at 10:45(ish) for those who wish to take a short look around the Squadron, and visit the newly refurbished History Room amongst other delights. At 12:00 (sharp) coaches will leave the Officers’ Mess for a visit to the Black Sheep Brewery Visitor Centre in Masham. During this visit you will receive a two-course lunch of Beef Casserole slow cooked in Rigwelter Ale and Apple Pie. After lunch a tour of the Brewery facilities is followed by a complimentary drink (tea/coffee/soft or a half of Black Sheep bitter) and the opportunity to browse the Visitor Centre and/or engage in a little retail therapy at the Visitor Centre shop. Those who wish can also take a short stroll around the lovely village of Masham prior to departing back to Leeming at around 16:00. Our Reunion Dinner will be held at the Officers’ Mess during the evening of Friday 16th. Dress is lounge suit or jacket and tie for the gentlemen, and ‘posh frocks’ for our ladies. The bar will be open for ‘Happy Hour’ and dinner will be served at 20:00. This will be a carvery style dinner (three courses plus coffee), and if there are any special dietary requirements please do let us know when making your booking. Wine will be provided courtesy of Babcock Engineering, and we are very grateful for this generosity. We shall be holding our usual Raffle and Auction during dinner, so bring lots of money with you and also gifts and contributions for the Raffle prizes please. The Boss and Norman Bonnor have promised to keep the speeches to no longer than an hour each! The AGM will be held on Saturday morning the 17th with tea/coffee and biscuits provided. This will be followed by our church service at Leeming Station Church after which we shall slowly disperse to home and/or local hostelries for lunch and to continue our talking! Once again, we have tried to keep costs to a minimum whilst providing you with an enjoyable Reunion. The Association will pay the costs of coaches for the visit to Masham, plus the costs of tea/coffee/biscuits provided for Friday and Saturday mornings. Please do make your bookings as early as is possible, as this helps the staff at the Officers’ Mess who look after us by providing an excellent atmosphere and dinner. Also, please do remember to include all of your details on the Booking Form; these are required for security clearance onto the base. Another gentle reminder - don’t forget to bring a photo ID (driving licence or passport) with you otherwise entry to the base can be denied. Allow good time at Leeming Guardroom for the security clearance process as there can be queues! Also, be aware that major roadwork’s are in progress on the A1 adjacent to RAF Leeming and lengthy delays can be experienced. Transport between RAF Leeming and overnight accommodation will not be provided as the costs to the Association are very high. Included with this issue of ‘The Hornet’ is a list of local accommodation (pubs, hotels and B&B’s) and this also contains a list of local taxi company phone numbers. There are a very limited number of rooms available at the Officers’ Mess on a first come first serve basis. Details are included in the accommodation list. This is the 25th Anniversary of the formation of 100 Squadron Association at RAF Wyton in 1985. We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 16th July when we shall celebrate our ‘Silver’ Anniversary’. Dr Keith Ellis Secretary
